Years ago, the caddies on the tours weren't nearly as professionals as they are today. In fact, often they were just local kids without much experience or knowledge of the game. Julius Boros ran into just one such kid.
After hitting his approach to the first hole, Boros pointed to his divot and told the caddie to pick it up. As the round progressed, the boy fell farther and farther behind. Boros, thinking the caddie had become ill, asked him if he was feeling all right.
"Yes, sir, but I was just wondering what you want me to do with all these?" he said, opening the side pocket of Boros's bag, which was filled with divots.
